Highly Recommended

Some users might complain that the default interface is more complicated than it needs to be. If you just panicked grab a quick drink and relax because this baby has a full customizable interface.

However, LionSea Driver Tuner is a fairly good program considering the standard and depth of the material it provides. In addition to being effective and its great ease of use, this software makes worth every penny of its price.

Windows Printer Drivers1

Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft provide several HP DeskJet 300 series printer driver solutions for Windows 3.0 and 3.1. This chapter identifies available printer drivers and which driver to choose for optimum performance. Some users may choose to use the Microsoft printer driver in some circumstances, although the driver has limited capabilities when used with newer HP DeskJet printers. Microsoft's and Hewlett-Packard's printer drivers can be installed in Windows at the same time and assigned to the same port. Windows, however, allows only one default or active printer driver per port at a time. Selecting a printer as the default or active device automatically switches any other printer drivers assigned to the port to an inactive state. Note that the difference between the HP printer driver name and the Microsoft printer driver name is that the Microsoft printer driver does not have Printer in the driver name. The next two sections describe Microsoft's printer drivers, included with...

Fourcolor printing CMYK

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) are the inks used by a printing press. The process is often called four-color printing. CMYK data files are typically used by and originate from graphic arts (printing and publishing) environments. The HP Color LaserJet 4550 series printer is optimized to print RGB colors for a good match to the screen, but will also accept CMYK colors through the PostScript printer driver. By default, the HP Color LaserJet 4550 series printer interprets CMYK data according to the Standard Web Offset Press (SWOP) standard. This standard defines how a particular set of CMYK inks should behave. The printer performs a SWOP color map and internal half-tones to emulate a SWOP CMYK press. Emulations for Dainippon Press (DIC) and Eurostandard CMYK inks used in the Far East and Europe are also available, and can be selected from the printer driver.

Bornon date current situation

Born-on Date is designed to provide an accurate warranty start date. This also helps minimize the use of manual proof of purchase or the grace period method. When a customer installs the printer driver the first time, the system date is downloaded to the printer's FW. This is not erasable in most cases. Therefore, the Born-on Date is the only electronic Proof of Purchase. Born-on Date will be displayed on the HP product in the front panel (under Utilities -> Statistics), in the Service Config. Plot and in the Web Server as Service ID . Although a few divisions have reached an agreement to use the BOD format of YYDDD, there still are slight differences in the implementation. Therefore, there is a very small discrepancy in the BOD consistency on products that are already present in the market today. APD, VPR, VCD and AiO (SDD & OPD) have agreed to a method of addressing the current consistency issue and to implement a standard for future firmware and product releases. Currently the...

Caution Before removing anything from the hard disk, be sure to make backup copies of items that may be needed in the future. New printers come with printer drivers. However, it is good practice to copy printer drivers to a backup disk before removing them from the hard disk. Be sure to remove only printer drivers from the system folder. Do not remove any other files from the system folder.

Automatic overhead transparency detection

The printer enters overhead transparency (OHT) mode when the user selects to print on transparencies through the printer driver or by selecting OHT as the media type at the printer control panel. The OHT sensors (PS1801 and PS1802, see figure 57 on page 184) are installed in front of the registration roller to detect transparencies even if the user has not set the media type at the printer control panel. The controller board monitors these sensors to execute OHT detection.

Additional Printing Information

Some applications provide printing option boxes, buttons, or fields in addition to the Page Setup and Print dialog boxes. A conflict can occur when the functions of these options are also covered by the printer driver. When the printer driver and software application both try to perform the same function, the result can be unexpected output. It is a good practice to ignore extra options provided by an application, if a similar option is already handled through the printer driver. For example, if an application provides an option similar to Complex Color Printing, do not select both options. It is usually preferable to choose the option provided by the printer driver. When previewing a range of pages, some of which contain black text and some color graphics, two or more of those pages can be printed.
